Southern Highlands Residents blockade POSCO drill site at Carters Lane Ends after 7 Months 24/7 Concerted Community Activity
The Battle is Over but the Community Spirit to Fight is Stronger than Ever NEWS
How our Water Supplies are being Sold Down the Drain
The NSW Farmers' Association is "bitterly disappointed."
Not to be outdone, the NSW Irrigators' Council is "profoundly disappointed."
The Total Environment Centre says that "environmental protection has been reduced to lip service."
And the CEO of CSG developer Metgasco says that this "sends a clear message that the NSW government is 100% behind the industry." Indeed.
The recurrent complaint is that, despite pre-election promises, no part of NSW is protected from the extractive industries - not prime agricultural land, not tourist sites, not vineyards or horse studs, not river systems, drinking water catchments, aquifers, lakes or wetlands. The promised "ring-fencing" of valuable areas didn't happen.

**ALERT: HUME COAL (AKA POSCO) SEEKING ACCESS FOR EXPLORATORY DRILLING**
We are fighting the spread of destructive Coal Mining and Coal Seam Gas extraction in the Southern Highlands. The Southern Highlands is a unique rural, residential, tourism and recreational area, 125 km south of Sydney. It forms a vital part of the Sydney water catchment area.
We will go anywhere, any time to promote our cause - recently we joined over 8,000 demonstrators outside Parliament House to voice our concerns about water aquifer interference and health.
Thank you to over 12,000 people in the Southern Highlands who signed our petition ... the national debate is heating up as you read this...
Our Principles and Objectives:
• We are fighting to protect the land, air, water and amenity of the Highlands against destructive mining activities which expropriate the profits and leave the social and environmental costs for the community to bear:
• We believe that it completely inappropriate for companies to undertake these activities against the express wishes of the local community;
• We are looking for the NSW State Government to redress the imbalance between the disenfranchised landowners and residents, and the powerful coal miners and gas companies; and
• We will continue the fight until these issues are resolved in the best interests of the Southern Highlands residents
and the NSW community.
